HVAC Design-Build Engineering & Installation, One Team
On complex projects — large custom homes, deep remodels, multi-zone designs — separating the engineer from the installer often produces a system on paper that nobody can actually build the way it was drawn. Design-build collapses that. The team designing the system is the team installing it, which means the design accounts for what is actually achievable in the field, and the install reflects exactly what the design intended.
What we handle
- Single point of accountability — one team for design and install
- Manual J / Manual D / Manual S calculations
- CAD drawings for ductwork, equipment placement, and refrigerant routing
- Equipment specification and procurement
- Title 24 compliance documentation
- Coordination with architect, builder, and other trades
- Installation, commissioning, and post-occupancy adjustments
Common signs you might need this
- Custom home with complex zoning needs
- Major remodel where existing HVAC will not adapt
- Multi-system home (radiant + forced air, mini split + central)
- High-performance home where HVAC sizing matters more than usual
- Owner who wants one number to call

Frequently asked
How is design-build different from spec-and-bid?
Spec-and-bid: the architect or engineer designs the system, then it is bid to multiple installers. Design-build: one team handles both. Design-build is faster, has fewer change orders, and produces installed systems that match the design — but you trust one team to do both well.
Do you work with owner-builders?
Yes — frequently. Owner-builders especially benefit from design-build because we handle the engineering scope they would otherwise have to source separately.
How early do you get involved?
As early as possible. Schematic design phase is ideal. We can also engage at design development or even construction documents — but our value drops the later we come in.
