New Construction HVAC Built Right from the Start

Reviewed by the Brewer HVAC technical team • Updated May 2026

Building new is the best opportunity to get HVAC right. The system is sized correctly from the start, the ductwork is run before drywall closes everything in, and the equipment is matched to the actual building envelope rather than retrofitted into whatever came before. We work with custom-home builders and owner-builders across Nevada County on residential new construction.

What we handle

  • Full HVAC system design from architectural plans
  • Manual J / Manual D / Manual S calculations for code-compliant sizing
  • Title 24 compliance — California Energy Code documentation
  • Coordination with builder, framer, electrician, and inspector
  • Equipment selection — high-efficiency, heat pump-ready, or future-proofed
  • Ductwork installation during rough-in
  • Final commissioning and homeowner walkthrough

Common signs you might need this

  • Just broke ground on a custom home
  • In the design phase and need HVAC input on layout
  • Owner-building and need a contractor for the mechanical scope
  • Replacing an existing system as part of a major remodel

Frequently asked

How early should I bring an HVAC contractor in?

Ideally during design. The earlier we are involved, the better the duct routing, the cleaner the equipment placement, and the more options we have for things like central return plenums or cold-climate heat pumps. By the time framing is up, options are more limited.

Do you handle Title 24?

Yes — we handle the energy code calculations and documentation as part of every new-construction project. Title 24 is mandatory in California, and the documentation needs to match the actual installed system.

Can you spec a heat-pump-ready or all-electric home?

Yes — increasingly common in Nevada County builds. We size and design accordingly, including the panel coordination with your electrician.
